Happy Independence Day! A household composed of an American and a Brit can be kind of fun on the 4th of July, especially if you are the American. I normally get a few good jokes in before the fireworks begin.
Since becoming global nomads a few weeks ago, this year Independence Day is more about celebrating freedom rather than an allegiance to a certain country. Selling most of our possessions has certainly been freeing, although I must be having some unconscious thoughts about it because I keep dreaming that our pods have been destroyed. (For those of you that don't know what a pod is, it's a type of mobile storage. They bring a container to your house, you load it with your stuff, then they pick it up and store it. Somewhere.) Maybe it's the somewhere that's getting to me, because we have no idea where the pods went after they left our house. They could have picked them up and put them on a container ship to China for all we know. Somehow even that feels freeing right now, less stuff to deal with when we get back.
What would it take for you to free yourself of something that is weighing you down or holding you back? It doesn't have to be something as big as letting go of your worldly possessions, or planning a trip to another country. It could be as simple as saying no instead of yes to yet another committment, or carving 30 minutes out of your schedule to do something that brings you joy, or signing up for a new class. It could be anything, and on this day of Independence, we challenge you to do one small thing to create more freedom in your life. What would it take?
