After setting up for the Living & Eating Green event, we popped round the corner for a bite to eat at The Melt Bar & Grill in Mentor, Ohio. The irony of eating fancy grilled cheese sandwiches after attending a healthy eating event isn't lost on us.

The place is crazy for grilled cheese and it's variants. There's the $30 3 1/2 lb grilled cheese challenge, the grilled cheese Empanadas, the awesome beer list and the ambiance. Beer fridges have classic video cabinet images built into them (Defender, Galaxians, etc), shelves have full size 60's xmas lawn ornaments and there is a massive mural dedicated to what I can only guess is famous Clevalandians (Clevelandites?). I only guessed because one of them was Drew Cary.

And how many places can you hear Queen's Thank God It's Xmas. In June. In Ohio! That sealed the deal for me.

The beer selection was excellent. Apparently Kim didn't think much of the wine but then again, should a beer and grilled cheese bar have a good wine selection?

I had the Korean BBQ War Pig (how could you not order an item with that name) which consisted of Korean BBQ glazed pulled pork & seared pork belly, kimchi slaw, pear onion cilantro relish & muenster cheese. Two greasy thumbs up for that combo!

Being Cleveland newbies we didn't realize that Melt has been around a while and has a number of locations. The walls are covered with all kinds of local and beer related kitsch (cool kitsch mind you) and there are a number of posters for specials they have run, all with a movie theme. The artwork in the posters is really cool and the use of movie titles really inventive. Here's a sample of a few of them:

Needless to say, H enjoyed this place, not least because there was a TV playing non stop cartoons. If you are in the Cleveland area, check them out. And if you are an owner of Melt, bring one to Pittsburgh!! We liked it so much we went back again!
